Raul Rosas Jr. Stops Raoni Barcelos With Fifth-Round Slam in Main Event
Raul Rosas Jr. finished his first UFC main event the hard way, stopping Raoni Barcelos by TKO at 1:38 of Round 5 on Saturday at UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. vs. Barcelos.
The official ruling was a slam. Rosas improved to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the UFC. Barcelos fell to 22-6 and 11-5 inside the promotion.
Both men entered on five-fight winning streaks. Both left the Meta APEX in Las Vegas looking like they had been in a five-round war.
Rosas, 21, was the youngest fighter to headline a UFC card. Barcelos, 39, was the veteran on the other side of what MMA Fighting called the largest age gap in UFC history.
The younger man had said he needed more than a decision. “I have to get a finish,” Rosas told reporters during fight week. “I wanna make a statement.”
He got the finish. It took 21 minutes and 38 seconds, and it came after Barcelos had already taken him down six times.
Round 1 was a phone-booth brawl. Rosas mixed stances and calf kicks. Barcelos answered with body work, uppercuts, and a takedown. Both men were already marked up when the horn sounded.
The second belonged more to the Brazilian. He jabbed, hit the body, and put Rosas on the mat. Rosas kept throwing, but the pace started to tax the 21-year-old.
Round 3 flipped again. Barcelos took the back early, Rosas turned into guard, and both men bled freely. Barcelos’ left eye swelled badly. Rosas still found enough offense to keep the fight even on some cards.
The fourth was Barcelos’ best grappling stretch. He swept Rosas, held a rear waistlock, and worked for a choke along the fence. Rosas survived the neck attacks and made it to the fifth.
Then the kid who had looked tired found another gear. Rosas threw flying knees, escaped a takedown, and went back to the body. Along the fence he hit a trip.
Barcelos went limp on the way down. Rosas moved to top position, landed a punch, then stepped off when he saw his opponent was out. Referee Herb Dean had nothing left to stop.
Official stats showed why the fight felt so close before that moment. Barcelos outlanded Rosas in significant strikes, 115 of 194 to 97 of 213, and completed 6 of 16 takedowns.
Rosas threw more total strikes, 142 of 267. He never attempted a takedown of his own until the sequence that ended the night. Neither man scored a knockdown on the sheet.
Barcelos required medical attention after the stoppage and was taken out of the Apex on a stretcher. Rosas opened his post-fight interview by pointing to him first.
He then hit the “Chiwiwis” call that has followed him since 2024 and asked for a bonus and a fight against the top seven. That is the conversation a fifth-round main-event finish is supposed to start.
The win extends a run that already included Rob Font in March. The only loss on Rosas’ record remains Christian Rodriguez at UFC 287 in 2023.
Barcelos’ streak had featured Payton Talbott, Montel Jackson, Ricky Simon, and former champion Cody Garbrandt. He had said Rosas had never fought anyone like him.
For four rounds, that looked true. The 39-year-old wrestled, jabbed, and made the prospect work in places the highlight clips do not show.
The slam changed the ledger. Rosas entered ranked No. 12. Barcelos entered at No. 13. A finish in a five-round main event usually moves the winner closer to the names he asked for after the fight.
Bantamweight still has a crowded top end, and Rosas will have to wait on the next set of rankings and matchmaking.
The rest of Saturday’s main card had already delivered a unanimous decision for Ailin Perez over Norma Dumont. The headliner needed five rounds and a takedown to settle the same question about who belongs in the next tier.
Rosas walked out of his first main event with the finish he asked for. Barcelos left under medical care after a night that asked more of both men than a standard Apex fight.
