UFC Employee Salhahuddin Everett Knocks Out Ozzy Martin and Earns a UFC Contract

Sal Everett spent the last stretch of his career stocking a refrigerator and running errands. On Tuesday night at the Meta Apex, Dana White handed him a UFC contract after a first-round knockout on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Everett, listed as Salhahuddin Everett, stopped Ozzy Martin at 1:57 of Round 1 in a welterweight bout on Season 10, Week 9. The finish came along the fence, where a pair of right hands folded Martin. White then did the part of the job that usually belongs to a stranger.

“Salhahuddin, so we got title fights in here. I don’t know if it’s ever been as loud as it was tonight for your fight,” White said. “And listen, everybody at the UFC loves you.”

The room had a reason to know the name. Everett, 29, has worked inside the building as security and, more recently, as White’s personal runner. That meant stocking the fridge in White’s office, moving laundry, and handling the errands a CEO does not have time for. The contract did not arrive as a favor in a hallway. It arrived after a finish.

“You’re a great kid. Forget about the whole fighting and the contract. You are a great human being,” White said. “This could not happen to a better person.”

Everett is 5-0, and every win has ended in the first round. Three have come by knockout and two by submission, all on the Tuff-N-Uff circuit in Las Vegas before Tuesday. The Martin fight was the one that moved him off the regional card and onto the roster White already signed his checks.

Martin, now 4-1, did not fold immediately. He opened with kicks to the body and made the first exchanges uncomfortable. Everett settled behind the jab, and the power gap showed once that lead hand started landing. Martin backed off. The right hands ended it.

White said the result looked even cleaner from his phone. People who know the Boston scene were not betting on the employee.

“You have worked your way from the bottom up. And let me tell you what, all the Boston guys were texting me on my phone tonight saying, your boy’s in trouble,” White said. “This guy’s a real guy. He’s fighting tonight. He’s in trouble. And you could not have won more impressively.”

That is the part of the signing that keeps it from reading like an office promotion. Contender Series contracts are handed out in public, on the same card as fighters who have never walked the Apex halls. Week 9 also sent Preston LaGrange through with a first-round stoppage of Nell Ariano. Everett’s path was the one that required an explanation.

White supplied it, then pointed at the odd part himself.

“It’s kind of weird because you’re already at the UFC, but Salhahuddin, welcome to the UFC,” White said.

Everett took the moment the way a fighter is supposed to. He stood in the red Contender Series hoodie, smiled through the speech, and answered once White was done.

The record gives the signing a cleaner defense than the job description does. Everett is 6-foot-3, fights at 170, and has not seen a second round as a professional. The four-second knockout of Drain in January and the rear-naked choke of Guyton in July were regional proof. Martin was the public test, and it lasted under two minutes.
