Historic UFC Records Set
Promotional Records Established at UFC 138
UFC 138 made promotional history by hosting the first scheduled five-round non-title main event in UFC history, establishing a permanent structural precedent for future non-title headliners.
Terry Etim tied the mark for the second-fastest submission finish in UFC lightweight history, tapping out Edward Faaloloto via guillotine choke in just 17 seconds of round one.
Mark Muñoz became the first fighter to secure a technical knockout victory via corner retirement in a scheduled five-round non-title headliner after Chris Leben’s corner halted the contest at the conclusion of round two.
Future bantamweight champion Renan Barão extended his sensational professional unbeaten streak to 28 fights (27-1, 1 NC) by submitting British fan-favorite Brad Pickett in round one.
Che Mills recorded one of the fastest debut knockouts by a British welterweight in UFC history, crumbling Chris Cope with vicious knees and punches in only 40 seconds.
Noted Muay Thai knockout artist Thiago Alves earned the first submission victory of his 19-fight UFC career by finishing newcomer Papy Abedi with a rear-naked choke at 3:32 of round one.
Anthony Perosh overcame steep +320 pre-fight betting odds to ground and submit the 6’6″ kickboxer Cyrille Diabaté via rear-naked choke in round two.
The card generated an arena-record $1.5 million (£938,000) live gate revenue across 10,823 fans at the LG Arena, marking the promotion’s premier UK attendance for 2011.
UFC 138 was the final numbered pay-per-view-style event broadcast on Spike TV in the United States, concluding a pivotal seven-year television partnership before the promotion’s move to FOX.
The promotion rewarded exceptional finishes by distributing individual $70,000 performance bonus checks to Renan Barão, Brad Pickett, Che Mills, and Terry Etim.
All five preliminary fights were broadcast free and live internationally across the UFC’s official Facebook platform, setting a streaming benchmark for early card accessibility.
Future international heavyweight champion Phil De Fries successfully debuted in the Octagon, outgrappling veteran Rob Broughton over three rounds to advance his record to 8-0.
