Sean Sharaf Says Fans Only Love UFC Fighters When They’re Hot

Sean Sharaf says the affection around a UFC fighter lasts about as long as the latest finish. On The Joe Rogan Experience, the heavyweight who stopped Gable Steveson in 12 seconds at UFC 331 described the sport as a place where praise arrives with a win and leaves with a loss.

Sharaf made the point while talking through the lightweight title picture, not his own walkout. “All that sh*t, that, that’s why I was telling you earlier, man, I’m just like, bro, like, it’s such a, like, I don’t wanna say a fake game, but it’s just, like, they only love you when you’re hot,” he said. He stopped short of calling the whole business fake. The complaint was narrower than that.

The example he used was Justin Gaethje. “Like, when fing Gaethje got knocked out by Holloway, he wasn’t fing hot, but then f***ing, he goes and wins this, he’s hot,” Sharaf said. Max Holloway stopped Gaethje in the fifth round at UFC 300 in April 2024. Gaethje then flipped the script on June 14, 2026, when a fourth-round corner stoppage of Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 made him the undisputed lightweight champion on the White House South Lawn.

Sharaf then moved the same heat to the man who had beaten Holloway. “And then fing Max Holloway gets knocked out by Ilya, fing Ilya’s hot,” he said. Topuria knocked out Holloway in the third round at UFC 308 in October 2024 to take the featherweight title, long before Gaethje ended Topuria’s unbeaten run in Washington. The order in the clip was about reputation, not the calendar. Holloway was the finisher, then Topuria was, then Gaethje was.

He grouped the current names in one breath. “Now Ilya’s, Strickland, Chamaya, f***ing Pereira, it’s like, that’s the games, the hurt business, you know?” Sharaf said. “Chamaya” was his pronunciation of Khamzat Chimaev. Sean Strickland and Alex Pereira were the other two he put in that rotation. He did not rank them. He treated all three, along with Topuria, as proof that attention moves to whoever just did the damage.

The closer was about what happens after that attention fades. “And then when, when they’re done with you, you cheat aholes, I’m like, bro, f*ing,” Sharaf said. He did not name the people he was calling out. The line sat next to the earlier claim that the love is conditional.

That argument is also the story of his own month. Sharaf entered UFC 331 on Sept. 19 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles at 4-2, a Marine Corps veteran who had started his UFC run 0-2 and said he had never met Dana White or matchmaker Mick Maynard in two years on the roster.

He knocked Steveson out at 12 seconds of the first round, one of the fastest heavyweight stoppages in UFC history, and left at 5-2. In a later interview he said the organization that had treated him like a ghost then sent a sedan and offered Fiji water.

LATEST NEWS: Joe Rogan Says Justin Gaethje Could Walk Away an All-Time Great

Joe Rogan had him on JRE MMA Show No. 186 days after that finish, the appearance Sharaf has said he pictured years before it happened. His follower count jumped from roughly 10,000 before fight week to more than 160,000 after the Steveson knockout.

The clip does not say who he wants next, and he has not announced a return date. The point he did make is that Gaethje was cold after Holloway, hot after Topuria, and that the same switch can be thrown on anyone in the hurt business.
