Ryan Garcia Says the Floyd Mayweather Offer Is Not an Exhibition

Ryan Garcia does not want a Floyd Mayweather exhibition. Hours after a report that talks were underway, the WBC welterweight champion posted that any fight has to put Mayweather’s 50-0 record on the line.

The post landed early Wednesday on X, and it was the second message of the night. Garcia opened with a shorter line, “Okay Floyd let’s see how much you love that ‘0’.” The follow-up set the terms.

“And no I wouldn’t do an exhibition I want his 0 on the f*cking line. How much does he actually think he got left,” Garcia wrote. “I’m ready Floyd, remember you made this call. I’m just returning the favor. Offer is on the table.”

He closed the door on a waiting game in the same post. “Accept or not, if not I move foward as I have been.”

Fight Hype had reported Tuesday that sources said talks were underway for a Mayweather-Garcia fight. The item did not include a date, a city, a weight, or a ruling on whether the bout would be professional or an exhibition. Garcia answered the last of those himself.

Mayweather has not confirmed the talks, and he has not answered the post. His professional record is still 50-0, the number he carried out of the ring in 2017 after the Conor McGregor fight. Everything since has been an exhibition. A June date against Mike Zambidis in Athens was called off before it reached the ring.

That history is the point Garcia is pressing. Mayweather turns 50 in February. An exhibition would protect the zero. A sanctioned fight would not. Garcia, 27, is treating the difference as the whole offer.

“I’m just returning the favor,” he wrote, without spelling out the earlier call. The public record on this one starts with the FightHype item and his reply. No contract, purse, or commission date has been filed.

Garcia is 26-2 with 21 knockouts, and he is not an idle champion looking for a nostalgia date. He took the WBC welterweight title from Mario Barrios in February and made the first defense on September 12 in Las Vegas, stopping Conor Benn in the second round under the Zuffa Boxing banner. The Ring moved him to No. 2 at 147 after that win, behind only Devin Haney.

The rest of his calendar was already crowded before Mayweather’s name surfaced. Oscar De La Hoya has said he wants Garcia’s next big fight in May, against Haney or Teofimo Lopez. Lopez holds the WBA belt at welterweight and has pointed to May 2027 as the right window, with a mandatory defense against Jack Catterall still on the WBA clock.

Isaac Cruz, the interim WBC titleholder at 140, called Garcia out last month. Garcia answered that one the same way. The offer, he said then, was on the table for December.

A Mayweather fight would sit on top of all of that, and it would only count the way Garcia is describing it if a commission treats it as a professional bout. Mayweather’s exhibitions have not touched the 50-0. Garcia’s post is a refusal to join that list.

The money case is obvious, and it is also unbuilt. Mayweather’s name still sells a building. Garcia’s last two results, the Barrios decision and the Benn stoppage, put a current champion on the other side.

Neither side has said what the fight would weigh, who would promote it, or whether Mayweather would even apply for a license. Garcia’s line about moving forward is the practical half of the post. Haney, Lopez, and Cruz do not require a retired fighter to unretire.

Mayweather has spent the years since 2017 choosing the terms. Garcia is trying to hand one back. Until Mayweather says the zero is available, the offer on the table is still a tweet.
