Raoni Barcelos Says He Will Return Stronger After Scare
Raoni Barcelos spoke from a hospital bed and told fans he is okay after the frightening finish to his UFC Vegas 121 main event against Raul Rosas Jr..
The Brazilian posted a video in a hospital gown, still marked up from Saturday night in Las Vegas. He said he is going through the tests the hospital requires and that he feels well.
“I wanted to send you all a message to let you know that I’m okay,” Barcelos said. “I’m doing very well, and I’m getting all the necessary tests done here at the hospital.”
The fifth round of the main event ended with Barcelos unconscious on the canvas. Rosas Jr. later said he checked whether Barcelos was breathing and prayed he would wake up and go home to his family.
Barcelos’ camp and doctor had already tried to calm the reaction around that scene. Coach Davi Ramos said a CT scan was part of the protocol and that a heart attack or stroke had been ruled out. Doctor Gustavo Medeiros described a sudden illness in the fifth round and said Barcelos was lucid and remaining in the hospital for final tests.
The new video is the first time Barcelos has spoken at length on camera since that night. He thanked people for prayers and messages and asked them to keep that support coming.
“Man, I gave everything I had inside that cage,” he said. “Like I said before, the only way I was leaving that cage was being carried out. And that’s how it ended up happening.”
He did not hide that the ending was not the one he wanted.
“It wasn’t the way I wanted it to go,” Barcelos said. “I wanted to become champion and leave with the victory, but God knows everything.”
The main event was not billed as a title fight. Barcelos used “champion” the way many fighters do after a five-round war they expected to win.
Rosas Jr. said the pace picked up again in the fifth and that Barcelos felt weak when he got a hold of him. After seeing the replay of Barcelos going out, Rosas Jr. wondered whether that was why the Brazilian already felt done.
Barcelos did not offer a medical diagnosis in the video. He stayed on what he could control: the tests, the gratitude, and the next step.
“So, on to the next one,” he said. “I’m here, I’m okay, and I’ll be back. I’ll come back stronger.”
He closed by sending a kiss and a hug to everyone who reached out. “Valeu, vamos que vamos,” he added at the end of the clip.
Barcelos is now on the record twice. An earlier update said he was conscious and feeling good. The hospital video repeats that he is well while making clear he is still being examined.
No official cause for the blackout has been released. Until doctors finish those tests, the only confirmed medical notes remain what his coach and physician already shared: he is lucid, the most alarming cardiac and stroke explanations have been taken off the table, and he is being held for protocol.
The result of the fight is secondary to that update. Rosas Jr. won a five-round main event. Barcelos left the Octagon the way he said he would only leave it, on a stretcher, and is now talking about coming back.
The next public step is a completed workup and a clearance timeline. Barcelos did not give either. He only said he is okay, he is grateful, and he plans to return stronger.
