Luis Francischinelli Stops Will Rentz in the First Round on Contender Series

Luis Francischinelli stopped Will Rentz by knockout in the first round on Tuesday night in a welterweight bout on Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, Week 10 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. The finish arrived early after Francischinelli caught Rentz coming forward and transitioned into ground strikes that ended the contest.

Francischinelli improved to 7-1 while Rentz fell to 8-3. The fight streamed on Paramount+ as part of the season finale card.

Official statistics showed limited action before the stoppage, with Francischinelli landing 15 of 20 total strikes and Rentz recording 1:26 of control time along with one successful takedown in four attempts.

The sequence developed quickly once the fighters engaged. Rentz pressed forward in the early exchanges and Francischinelli capitalized on the entry, securing the clinch and driving the fight to the canvas.

Ground-and-pound followed near the fence, and the referee stepped in to stop the bout before the round reached the halfway point. The finish matched the pattern of Francischinelli’s prior regional victories, all of which had come by knockout.

Francischinelli, the 30-year-old from São Paulo standing 6’6″, entered off a second-round knockout of Travis Arrellano at LFA 232 in May after a submission loss to Jonathan Piersma the previous November.

Rentz, the 27-year-old from Tampa who fights as Iron Will, arrived on a five-fight winning streak with all eight of his professional wins coming by knockout or technical knockout. The size difference shaped the early exchanges, as Francischinelli used his length to counter Rentz’s forward pressure.

The result ends Rentz’s streak of first-round finishes and adds another early stoppage to Francischinelli’s résumé on the Contender Series. Contender Series winners typically receive UFC offers when the promotion is impressed, though final decisions for the full card remain pending as the remaining bouts conclude.

Francischinelli leaves Las Vegas with the first-round knockout and an improved record that strengthens his case among the taller prospects competing for roster spots. Rentz returns after the early loss in a bout decided by the Brazilian’s ability to capitalize on an aggressive entry.

The welterweight matchup adds another finish to a Contender Series season finale that continues to determine which additional fighters advance toward the UFC.
