Greg Foster Earns Unanimous Decision Over Jason Asher on Contender Series
Greg Foster defeated Jason Asher by unanimous decision on Tuesday night in the opening lightweight bout of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, Week 10 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. The official scorecards read 29-28 across all three judges after three full rounds.
Asher entered the bout undefeated at 5-0 with every prior win coming by knockout or technical knockout. Foster improved to 9-1 with the victory while Asher fell to 5-1.
The fight streamed on Paramount+ as the season finale of the Contender Series, with both men competing for a potential UFC contract.
Foster landed the higher volume of significant strikes throughout the three rounds. He connected on 143 of 307 significant strikes compared with Asher’s 102 of 190, with the majority of Foster’s damage landing to the head.
Asher controlled the fight for 5:06 against Foster’s 2:30 and attempted one submission, but the judges awarded the decision to Foster on the strength of the striking differential. Both fighters recorded one knockdown and one successful takedown.
The early portion of the fight featured a knockdown exchange. Foster dropped Asher early before Asher answered with a knockdown of his own as the two traded power shots in close range.
Asher pressed for grappling exchanges later in the contest, including a late submission attempt in the third round, while Foster continued to circle and land combinations. The action stayed competitive enough for close 29-28 scorecards in Foster’s favor.
Asher, the 26-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, had finished all five of his previous professional opponents, including a first-round stoppage of Cameron Graves at Fury FC in July.
Foster, the 34-year-old from the Tucson area who trains at the MMA Lab, entered on a three-fight finishing streak after an earlier decision loss. The result marked the first time Asher had been taken the full distance and the first time he had lost.
Foster’s output proved decisive in a bout many expected Asher’s power to decide. Asher’s control time and submission attempt kept the fight close, but the significant strike numbers favored the more experienced fighter across all three rounds.
The decision ends Asher’s perfect record while extending Foster’s win streak to four.
No contract announcement was made in the cage following the decision. Contender Series winners typically receive UFC deals when Dana White is sufficiently impressed, though the final determinations for the card remain pending.
Foster now holds a decision win over an undefeated finisher on the season’s final episode, while Asher must regroup after his first professional setback.
The lightweight division on the Contender Series card continues to produce competitive matchups capable of generating UFC interest. Foster leaves Las Vegas with the unanimous decision and an improved record that strengthens his case for a roster spot.
Asher returns to the regional circuit with the experience of a close three-round loss against a veteran who matched his power and outworked him on the scorecards. The outcome adds another layer to the season finale as the remaining bouts on the card determine which additional fighters advance.
