Aaron Pico Knocks Out Losene Keita in Round 1 at UFC 333

Aaron Pico opened the main card of UFC 333 with a first-round knockout of Losene Keita on Saturday at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The ranked featherweight finished the former Oktagon champion early after a brief scramble.

Pico entered the bout with a 14-5 professional record and a 1-1 mark in the UFC. Keita arrived at 17-2 overall and 1-1 inside the promotion after stepping in on short notice. The American was favored against the Belgian-based fighter who had replaced Arnold Allen.

Pico shot for a single-leg takedown immediately and put Keita on his back. Keita worked back to his feet, but Pico connected with a one-two combination that dropped him.

Pico followed with ground strikes that forced the referee to stop the contest in the opening round. The finish added another early stoppage to the card.

The win improves Pico to 15-5 overall and 2-1 in the UFC. It is his second consecutive victory after a unanimous decision over Patricio Pitbull at UFC 327. Keita drops to 17-3 and 1-2 in the promotion, ending a short run that included a first-round knockout of Muhammadjon Naimov in September.

Pico, a former Bellator contender known for wrestling and striking, bounced back from a first-round loss to Lerone Murphy in his UFC debut. Keita, a former two-division Oktagon champion, had built momentum with the Naimov finish before accepting the short-notice assignment. Both men entered ranked or near the top of the featherweight division.

The knockout gives Pico a highlight-reel finish and strengthens his position in the rankings. Keita’s brief UFC tenure now includes two losses after a promising regional run.

The featherweight division continues to see movement as fighters look for ranked opportunities following this result.

Pico will look to climb further when the UFC books his next opponent. Keita returns after a short night against a ranked wrestler-striker.

The main card continues in Abu Dhabi with title fights still ahead involving Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev.
