Jan Paul Rivera Defeats Abraham Perfecto by Unanimous Decision in Chicago
Jan Paul Rivera defeated Abraham Perfecto Valdez by unanimous decision in a 10-round super featherweight bout on the undercard of the Schofield vs. Bahdi event at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Saturday. All three judges scored the fight 99-89.
The official announcement came in the ring.
“Scores about the same, ninety-nine to eighty-nine, for your winner by unanimous decision and still undefeated, John Paul Rivera!” the announcer said. Rivera remained undefeated and raised both arms in celebration while wearing a robe with his name across the front.
Rivera dropped Perfecto in the second round. He controlled the majority of the exchanges across the full distance and won every round on the official cards. A point was deducted from Rivera for a low blow during the fight. The final scores of 99-89 reflected that deduction while still awarding him every round.
Perfecto Valdez entered the bout with a professional record that included two losses. Rivera, the 25-year-old from Ponce, Puerto Rico, had entered undefeated after a unanimous decision win over Ruben Garcia Hernandez in August.
That previous fight had also gone the distance. Rivera’s amateur background includes a silver medal at the 2018 AIBA Youth World Championships.
The Puerto Rican prospect carried the higher volume and landed the cleaner shots over the 10 rounds. Perfecto absorbed the second-round knockdown and continued to the final bell, but he did not reverse the scoring.
Rivera’s point deduction for the low blow did not change the outcome. The fight was broadcast on DAZN as part of the Golden Boy Promotions card headlined by Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi.
Rivera moves to 16-0 with seven knockouts. Perfecto falls to 14-3. The win extends Rivera’s unbeaten run and keeps him active in the super featherweight division.
He has mixed stoppages and decisions in recent outings, with the majority of his 2026 results coming by decision. Perfecto’s second loss of the year ends his night in Chicago without a round on the cards.
Rivera leaves Wintrust Arena still undefeated and with a 10-round unanimous decision on his record.
Perfecto leaves with the loss after absorbing the knockdown and the full distance. Neither fighter has a return date announced, and the super featherweight picture continues without an immediate booking set for either man.
