Leila Beaudoin Retains the Interim WBA Title by Unanimous Decision

Leila Beaudoin defeated Brisa Alfonzo by unanimous decision to retain the interim WBA super featherweight title. All three judges scored it 100-89 on Thursday at Capitole de Quebec, and the Quebec fighter never lost a round.

The bout sat on the Eye of the Tiger card that Osleys Iglesias headlined against Oliver Zaren. It streamed on DAZN. Beaudoin got the hand and the belt. Alfonzo got through 10 rounds.

Beaudoin moved to 16-2 with two knockouts. Alfonzo, the Argentine ranked No. 2 by the WBA coming in, fell to 9-2-2 with one knockout. The only 10-8 on the cards came in the sixth, when a right hand to the body dropped Alfonzo for a count of eight.

The eighth looked like the stoppage. Beaudoin landed at least seven straight power shots to the head, and Alfonzo stayed upright. She finished the fight. She did not take a round.

Beaudoin won the vacant interim belt in June at the same venue, outpointing Paulina Angel and sweeping the cards. Two months before that she beat former Argentine world champion Victoria Bustos over 10 rounds at Casino de Montréal. Thursday was the first defense.

Alfonzo came from Argentina under the full name Brisa Abigail Rosario Alfonzo. She was the highest-ranked available opponent when the date was made. The pre-fight billing had her unbeaten. The record that left Quebec City did not.

Beaudoin said the power was real even when the cards were not close. “Elle a quand même été tough et elle frappait avec puissance,” she said. “Elle a accroché et je l’ai accroché aussi, mais je voulais vraiment gagner.”

She also put a number on the schedule. “J’ai fait quatre combats en huit mois et on va revenir plus fort après.” The rest, she said, can wait. She wants to rest first.

A 100-89 sweep with one knockdown is the cleanest kind of defense. The broadcast counted another night of rounds that all went her way. Alfonzo clinched, landed, and survived the eighth. None of it moved a judge.

Beaudoin leaves Quebec City still the interim WBA super featherweight champion, still 16-2, with a first defense that did not need a split. Alfonzo has the loss and the round she finished on her feet. The belt stayed in red.
