Tyson Fury Tells Anthony Joshua There Is No More Running

Tyson Fury used the first launch press conference to accuse Anthony Joshua’s side of stalling for months, then said the running is finished.

The former heavyweight champions shared a stage Wednesday in London ahead of their December 11 meeting at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The bout streams globally on Netflix and will be contested for the vacant WBA Super heavyweight title.

Fury opened the sharpest stretch of the event with two words and did not soften them.

“Bullsht,” he said. “Bullsht.”

He pointed the next line at Joshua and Eddie Hearn, who sat a few seats away.

“Behind the scenes, yous have been crying like little girls about A-sides and B-sides,” Fury said.

Joshua answered that the fight landing in Britain was the point. He has said he wanted the contest in Great Britain after years of talk that it might leave the country. Fury treated that as another delay, not a win.

“Yous have tried everything to get out of this fight,” Fury said. “Every move in the book.”

He then claimed the board was closed.

“And I’ve checkmated you,” he said. “There’s no more running. You’ve got to fight.”

That is the version of the buildup that survived the last week. The date is set for Friday, December 11, with ring walks expected in the early hours of Saturday to serve a U.S. Netflix window. Cardiff kept the fight on British soil after New York and other American venues were floated.

Fury said location never mattered to him.

“Wherever it was, I’ve always said, I don’t care where it is, I’ll fight any man anywhere,” he said. “And I’ve been a man of my word.”

He listed the proof he wanted on the record. He beat Deontay Wilder in the United States. He beat Wladimir Klitschko on the road. He also said he has never won a world title in Britain.

“So, now the world title’s on the line, it gives us a good opportunity to become a three-time champion, either one of us, on the night,” Fury said. “So that’s even better.”

The WBA restored its Super designation for this fight. Murat Gassiev remains the body’s Regular heavyweight champion. The Cardiff winner would become a three-time world champion under that structure. Fury is 36-2-1. Joshua is 30-4. Neither man currently holds a major belt.

The press conference was not only heat. Other stretches were lighter, including talk of a pint after the fight. The clip that traveled was the one where Fury refused to treat billing, venue, and promoter credit as small talk.

He closed that run by putting a name on who he thinks sits at the top of the table.

“Just remember that GK is number one, and yous don’t own sh*t,” Fury said. “I’m the boss. Know that. Boss.”

LATEST NEWS: Dana White Calls Fury Joshua Drama a Total Ego Thing

Dana White and Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring are listed as collaborators on the promotion. Hearn and Frank Warren were on the dais even though the official announcement last week did not name Matchroom or Queensberry. That credit fight is the same dispute Fury was poking when he talked about A-sides and B-sides.

Cardiff is now the only date that matters. The next public stop is the rest of fight week in December, when the vacant belt, the Netflix audience, and more than a decade of unfinished British heavyweight business go in the ring together.
