Ryan Garcia Picks Tank Over Haney If Forced Into One Rematch

Ryan Garcia Picks Tank Over Haney If Forced Into One Rematch

Ryan Garcia was asked which rematch he wanted first, Gervonta Davis or Devin Haney.

He wanted both. Then he picked Tank.

“Sh*t, both of them,” Garcia said on his stream. “They are equally need to get that word, equally bad, though, to the point, man.”

The follow-up was the line that matters. “I mean, Haney already got his ass real cooked, so you would have to go Tank if you made a real decision, probably Tank rematch.”

That is not a signed fight. It is Garcia ranking the two names that still follow him after he became WBC welterweight champion.

Davis is the unfinished loss. On April 22, 2023, at T-Mobile Arena, Tank stopped him at 1:44 of the seventh round with a body shot. Garcia has said for years that the first meeting came with weight and rehydration terms he will not repeat. In mid-September he confirmed that Davis and Al Haymon had reached his team and that the number this time is “147 or nothing.”

Davis answered that he would do 144 pounds. That gap is the entire negotiation. Garcia has parked himself at welterweight. Davis has spent most of his career at 130 and 135 and has fought only twice since the Garcia knockout, including a majority draw with Lamont Roach in March 2025. His record stands at 30-0-1.

Haney is the other rematch because the first meeting never stuck on paper. On April 20, 2024, at Barclays Center, Garcia scored three knockdowns and won a majority decision. The New York commission later changed it to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for ostarine. Haney kept his official standing. Garcia still talks about that night as if the beating in the ring already answered the question.

Haney now holds the WBO welterweight title. A second fight would be a unification and a chance to put a clean result on the books. Garcia has said that rematch can wait. After stopping Conor Benn in two rounds on September 12, he also pointed at Teofimo Lopez and talked about fighting again in December.

His current run is why the question even lands. Garcia took the WBC belt from Mario Barrios by decision in February, then flattened Benn in Las Vegas. He is 26-2 with 21 knockouts after that defense. He has options. He does not have a date.

The stream answer only orders those options. Garcia says both men need the fight. He says Haney already took the worse night. He says Davis is the one you take if you have to choose.

That tracks with the records. Davis is the only man who knocked Garcia out as a professional. Haney was dropped three times and still has an official no contest instead of a loss. One rematch is revenge at a new weight. The other is a cleanup of a result the commission already wiped away.

Weight will decide whether Tank happens first. Garcia will not go back to 135 or 140. Davis has to come up. Until that number is agreed, the rematch stays talk, the same way the Haney sequel stays talk.

Garcia has said he wants to throw hands again before the year ends. Lopez, Davis, Haney, and Isaac Cruz have all been in the conversation since the Benn win. Only one of those names is the man who put him on the canvas.

If the question is which rematch the champion himself would book first, he already answered it. Tank, if he has to pick one.
